Guys,
I have played my FX-Reverb unit for a couple of months now and decided the reverb needed a tweak. If I cranked the reverb it began to sound slightly harsh, hollow (like in a big can) and had some high end "ping".
I must say I am not a big fan of Fender reverb because I don't like the midscooped Fender tone nor the high end frequency being the center piece of the reverb. I found much of the reverb on tap of the Princeton Reverb I owned to simply be unuseable for me. It got way too hollow sounding to me. I like a warmer more spacious/bigger tone.
The "send" 12AT7 was already just "right" for me.
However, I had a left over triode on the 12AX7 recovery and decided to parallel it to see if it "fattened and warmed" up the tone.
It did!!
This is the warmest biggest most pleasing reverb I have heard. While I have enjoyed the one tube reverb I've used for yrs, this is even nicer sounding, IMO. It has a bigger warmer tone more like a reverb with slight delay added (to make it sound bigger) and some mid tone thrown in. That's the best description I can offer. No hollow tone at all if dimed.
IF I ever build another amp with reverb onboard, I will use this two tube reverb with the return 12AX7 paralleled. I thought I'd share this because I don't remember seeing anyone mentioning trying the paralleled recovery tube before? The editable schematic is on the last post of this thread:
