Got my bluesmiester up and running
« on: March 01, 2011, 11:45:55 pm »
Got it finished just before the kids climed in bed. never even got to roll a few tubes. First thoughts the clean channel is sparkling I had a beautifull old Rca 12ax7 in there . I noticed after i shut it off and put the kids to bed Geezer had a 12ay7 in the V1 I had mixed the two. Never got a chance to do more that play a couple notes on the OD channel Im exited for tommorow. Thanks Geezer for getting us the design and Tubnit for getting the layouts and schematics out to us so fast . Bill

Got to play for an hour or so before work I can tell this will be one of my fave,s for amps, for strats with single coils this is dialed in really well as it sits.
I will adjust when I get a chance a little of the bassyness for my humbuckers in the OD section just as Geezer said he dialed it in for what he was playing with. Before I do anything though I will do some tube rolling amazing what differant tubes will do Ive been collecting.
Ive been dying to try my cap box I made. 3 = 6 way switches I have the big bypass caps then smaller values I can add on top, later I want to put in another one for resisters to parrallel across those.
Im as exited as a kid in a candy store.

Tubnit because we know that Iron, speakers, tubes and other parts make such a big differance in how an amplifier sounds. what tweeks did you do and why. I already know my plan of action, but for the sake of others who have never had to voice an amp before, maybe several of the guys here could explain the steps they use, were they start and why for other people. Ive already had the pleasure of you guys helping me through several amps, but I know there are guys here who love to build an amp like this but as Geezer said you must be able to dial it in for your setup.
Sorry I talk to much when Im exited about something, Amps and guitars Im hooked big time

Thanks Bill

This is my current amp and current tweaks.  Best reason I can give for tweaks is just trying out ideas to see what I like and based on some previous experimenting. Some of it based on guesswork & trial and error........ & being persistent.

Geezer and I trade info and tweaks.  I borrow waaaayyy more from him then he does from me.

I have a capacitor box and a resistor box that helps ALOT in dialing in tone. Great tools for experimenting around.

Thanks Tubnit i think i found my tonal bliss areas for my amp and buttoned her up I forgot to take a gut shot man Im terrible about that stuff. I will take a picture of her for the gallery.
Ive always kind of bin an odd blues guy more rock than blues grew up on Clapton, Page ,Hendrix even Angus Young as my real influences. So its odd for me to love a clean channel but this one has made a believer out of me I found myself noodlin for an hour on the clean channel. Kind of fun i only made 3 cap changes on the OD channel to get mine were my humbuckers and my single coiled pickups sounded good
V2a I changed the cathode cap that has the 3.3k resister to a 1uf, v2b with the 2.2k resister to a 2.2uf and the cap after v2b that was a .0047 to .0033 dialed it in perfect for me, it was kind of what i had in the box but worked perfect. Thanks Geezer for another great design. Bill  :wav:
