dumpster find
« on: April 30, 2011, 09:27:38 pm »
I recovered a Sherwood S7000 receiver from electronics recycle bin today, its missing some tuner parts but has all the iron and the 7591 OP tubes, would the OP transformers work for guitar amps with 7591 tubes,?? All ideas welcome

...the OP transformers work for guitar amps

yes.

might be worth more for restoration though, or as a donor for restoration of another.

7591 looks like a cool tube - kind of EL34ish slope with ratings and envelope size similar to 5881.

The can be made into guitar amps , and the do sound good , however , just as DummyLoad said it is worth more as a resoration , and well worth restoring , they sound awesome.
Any tube unit can be brought back to life.
I never meet a tube I didn't like.

***OPINION ALERT***

I'd part out the Sherwood, HiFi guys have some deep pockets.

use the money to buy Iron for a proven guitar amp design.

The few conversion amps I've done sound good, especially when placed next to an affordable SS amp.

But they never sounded as good as an amp that was designed ground up to be a guitar amp.

Just my thoughts and opinions
