Help troubleshooting revibe please

I just finished a re-vibe, hoffman board, repro MM iron, it has a tone issue I believe. I get a slight loss of signal strength, and very tinnie, too much treblenot enough bottom end, almost a buss on chording, etc, the lower 1/2 of the spectrum.
All features work, the reverb sounds strong, totally controllable with the pots, vibrato same, works proper. The pedals on/off, same tonal issues.
     I checked voltages, seem correct.
     I tried reversing the OT primary leads, no difference.
     does this sound like maybe I got a wrong value cap buried in there? and can someone point me in the proper area to look for the culprit?
I tried jumping around the tone pot, chopsticking, can't find anything making noise. The thing isn't buzzing or humming, dead quiet except described abovw while playing.
     one thing I did do that I have never done before is take the choke directly to a 100/100 cap can, located at the power cord end due to space constraints, then ran a lead to the B+, and the other side, fairly long lead to the node on the board. Caps far away, this an issue?
