An unusual PRS knockoff by Jay Turser

This is what I picked up way cheap because it would not produce any sound through an amp. I got it home and got it working by cleaning the pots but it stopped working already--guess I'll need to replace the 500K pots. Once I get it fully fuctional, I'll decide rather I want to keep it for myself or sell it. The quality is pretty impressive to be Jay Turser--some of their better works.

Anybody have any safe way of getting these knobs off without doing damage to knob or body? The knobs are telecater type gold plated with inlay on top but no set screw. I've tried to firmly pull them off with my hand but they didn't budge. Stu mac has a puller for $45.00! I was hoping I could find a safe way to pull them without a major investment. I need to get the knobs off to correctly identify the pots for correct ordering. Platefie

Take a thin rag. Wrap it once around the pot stem, under the knob.  Pull straight up.

I could have used that Idea last week before I decided the cheapo knobs weren't worth the brain power to figure out how to pull them off.

I too looked at the stew mac puller and thought I would make one, then I saw a pair of pliers on the kitchen table and thought F*@% IT!

Seems I remember back in the day using a shop rag to pull the clip off window regulator cranks on old car doors.

I tried jjasilli's suggestion. Used a handkerchief looped around bottom tightly and pulled both volume knobs right off. Worked Great! ----Thanks 

Wasn't sure if I liked the appearance of this guitar at first but I think it's starting to grow on me. I don't  know much about inlay as done on this guitar but it has a really quality well done apperance. Don't mean it's a quality installation but it so far faked me out. Can't wait to get the two new pots installed so I can play/hear it a while and see if she sounds as good as it looks. It is the knerled split short shaft I think? I better pull it first to be sure about the shaft length. Platefire

I pulled one of the pots and it is long shaft. Existing bad pot is a B500K ALPHA. Body is about 7/8" diameter and 3/8" deep. The threaded shaft housing is about 1/2" tall with the knurled end of the shaft about 1/4" beyond the threads for a total of 3/4" tall from body top of shaft.

Doug don't have any dimensions shown for his CST long shaft and just looking at it, the CST Shaft looks longer or either thats a midi size pot body? Something don't look the same as my existing ALPHA. Has any of you had experiance with Dougs long shaft that you can tell me dimensions. Thanks, Platefire

I use the pot I want & get it to fit.  If necessary, I gently ream out the body whole with a hand-held unibit; or shorten a too-long shaft with a hacksaw, or a cut-off wheel on a dremel tool.  I like the pots from RS Guitarworks (but maybe I'm just sniff'n corks!)

Well I was wrong about it being a long shaft--it's normal. I got the ones from stu mac because they provided demensions that I could match up with mine including the existing 5/16" hole in body. Anyway I've got some on the way. Platefire

I ordered a bunch of parts from stewmac on Monday for guitar I'm making for my nephew, wish that our Mr. Hoffman ran their shipping department, I would have had my parcel by now!

All said tho, stew mac is pretty swift, just not Doug swift

Well I mispoke here in hind sight, I'm now GLAD our benefactor isn't running the show in Anthens, Ohio.

I ordered a string spacing ruler from StewMac and received 2. I called and offered to send it back, they said keep it.

Tonight when I checked the mailbox, a box from SM was there with....wait for it....
another string spacing rule! and an apology note for missing it in my order!

They must have thought I said I ordered 2 and got only 1 instead of order 1 and got 2.

I could cut nuts like a vet on gelding day at the cattle ranch and never use all these!

I put two Alpha A500K pots in the this guitar today and tried it out for the first time. ONE WORD---FINE!

The pickups sound great, the neck/action feels wonderful, well balanced and just plays like a dream. The only negative I noticed was the tuning was drifting with a lot of string bending and I put a little graphite on the nut slots and that seem to of helped  a bunch. The Dolphins where really jumping through the hoops;>}
