Replacement power transformers: snake oil?

Hi There everybody

I am currently modding my epiphone valve junior to use as a recording amp. Obviously a good quality output transformer will be worth the money, but will a new power transformer really make a difference? I read elsewhere on this forum that the PT is just a generic PT used by epiphone and often powers much larger amps, which makes me think there is no need to replace it for a 5W amp.. surely power is just power at the PT end?
Also, can I use a regular champ transformer with an EL84, instead of paying extra for a "special" valve junior OT?

If the request in current of the new amp is within the old PT ratings

I think you can consider to save some money

Thanks for the reply. I have ordered a mercury OT but Im keeping the original PT. I just went for the Champ OT, Im sure it will be fine.
Also bought a weber 8" blue pup, I love my Weber 12" bluedogs, so hopefully these will come out well.
