Nabbed a LP Studio Alpine White (New Picture Posted)
« on: July 16, 2011, 09:42:56 pm »
Got this at a fairly decent price on E-Bay. Been wanting to try one of these out and I love the way the Alpine whites looks with the black guard, pickups and knobs. So I've been eyeballing this model for a while. The clean un-cluttered appearance I like, we'll see how it performs?

Dang PF!

That is one sexy axe!

I've always thought that white tuxedo look was classy.

I've got a junky strat copy made in Taiwan maybe 30 yrs ago,MDF body and painted faux ebony neck, white tux treatment. No matter what corner it's stuck in, some one finds it an ooo's and aaahs.

so that dress on a REAL guitar is like chocolate covered sin.

I've always heard good reviews on the Epi LP's and final heard with my own ears 3 weeks ago.

Typical LP butter sounds . was played thru a Marshall MG100.

Kudo's to you!

Thanks! Now being retired I look for ways to make extra money to supplement my income. Buying guitars at a bargan price and then selling them is what I am attemting right now. It's fun in that I enjoy the hunt plus after I get them enjoy setting them up and making any required repairs. What I like about it is it gives me the opprotunity to try out a lot of different guitars that I never got my hands on before.
I've never owned a real high dollar guitar with the only exception being a Gibson LP Custom in the 70's. Even though most I've bought lately is considered budget guitars I have been consistanly impressed with Epiphone quality. I know my Epi LP Standard feels and plays as good as what I recall about my old Gibson LP Custom.

The good thing about this is it's kind of like the Blue Bell Ice Cream Commercial "We eat all we can and sell the rest"---if I run accross an ax that's really outstanding, I can keep that for myself  :icon_biggrin:

Nice lookin' guitar! But how did he ship for only 10 bucks??

Then again, no transformers keeps the weight down.

Anywho, nice score! Good on ya!

Texarkana Tx is within 200 miles, not to far. If he ships parcel post--that is within reason. I have shipped guitars parcel post with no problem. You just have to pack them well(padded) and mark them "Fragile" and "Handle with Care". Hopefully he will take care of buisness.

When I bought the Epi LP Standard the shipping charge was $25.00 from Florida and he shipped it UPS. I know he ate some $ on that one. I've been snagged on shipping with e-bay before and after you've been snagged a few times, you learn to get it right.

Bottom line is it is a money back garentee within 7 days if not fully satisfied and a marked that seller assums responsibility that would include providing safe shipping. Anyway that's the way I interpret it but it don't always work that way---so I'm Praying it arrives safe and sound! Platefire

UPDATE: Got This message from seller today;

"Just shipped Bob. Included Road Master Case with guitar and put insurance on package. Didn't know it would cost so much to ship but it's a mistake I'll learn from. Enjoy!!!"

I didn't even know a case came with it--he didn't even mention it on his listing. Once I get the guitar/case and everything looks good, I will send him some extra cash. I like a good deal but don't want to rip anybody off. Searched the net and the only example of a Roadmaster Case I could find is as shown:

holy crap, just that case must be 100 new!

I've bought a few old (vintage lol) tube chassis for the parts lately, and so far the shipping charges always seem to be in the ball park, especially considering that everyone seems to really pack them well. A couple things I've bought just because I want to tinker with them, try to understand how they're put together.

Sooner or later my wife is going to wonder where all these empty boxes came from, though.

I've been noticing a new trend on e-bay. People are lowering the price of the listed item to make it more attractive but are charging an outlandish shipping charge like $50.00 to $60.00 when it should be in the $20-$30 range. So when I spot an item with a good price, the shipping cost is the next thing I check out. Platefire

Not a new scheme. And... I'm not sure that the TOS for eBay really allows them to do that... (more than likely a handling charge.) When I see that, I automatically think rip-off.  Anyway, I always factor that in when I do buy on eBay, and I try to be fair when I sell. (I only add a dollar or two for handling, mainly to cover shipping materials and printing supplies.)

I got the LP Studio yesterday. Except for a few small dings, it's in like new condition(2008). It came with a Roadrunner gig bag which go for about $50.00--not a case but pretty nice gig bag.

The shocker is this guitar was packed by UPS in a large UPS box, the gig bag was covered by several layers of bubble rap and that was completely surrounded buy a ton of packing peanuts. I latter found out that the packing and shipping with UPS cost $70.00 and he charged $10.00 for shipping  :dontknow:

I did send him an additional $30.00 to soften the blow and an explination of cheaper methods to ship guitars by aquiring the materials and doing it yourself and using USPS instead of UPS for shipping. This is just his 14'th e-bay transaction, so he's learning!

I will post pictures of the LP pretty soon. Platefire

Here are some pixs of the Studio. I got some bright white auto touch up paint from wal marts and touched up the few dings on it. Now you can't seen them. After playing the studio a while, I've decided to keep the Studio and sell the Standard. Platefire

Buyers tend to like Free Shipping.  So does eBay.  E.g.  A seller wants $100 for an Item with Free Shipping.  If the seller gets his price, eBay gets a fee from the seller on the entire $100!  OTOH If the seller charges $99 shipping, and the winning bid is $1, then $100 still changes hands for the Item; but eBay gets a fee on only $1!! Also, sometimes the seller may use shipping or handling fees as "substitute" for a minimum bid. Even so, I must admit that high fees are an turn-off; especially because shipping fees are usually not refundable, even if the price of the Item is.

I have to admit "Free Shipping" gets my attention on a e-bay guitar but my bottom line is---if I don't want to keep the guitar for myself, can I sell it and get my investment back or even make a profit? In order to do that you have to get it pretty cheap and you have to be able to asertain from the information provided if the guitar is in worthy condition beforehand. You have to shop a little harder and find those a little more egar to sell. It also means you may have to ask more questions to the seller to pry and little more info out of him in some cases. There are good deals on e-bay, but you have to hunt them down and act quick when you find them. IMHO shipping cost becomes part of the overall investment you have to consider along with the items cost. Platefire

Wow Plate, your a good man Charlie Brown.  I can't say I would have done the same thing.  Although I have had a few transactions on fleabay that have caused some scar tissue on my end - so I have an excuse for being a jerk!

That is one nice geetar!

Well thanks! I just thought it was the right thing to do in this case. I've been burnt a few times on e-bay transactions too but I try not to get jaded about it and mark it off as experiance as something to strive not to repeat.

The guitar was pretty much perfect and he sent along with a unexpected pretty nice Road Runner gig bag he didn't even mention in his description. When I ask him about it he just said, "Well I was selling the guitar and didn't have any need for the case anymore, so I sent that too"  :l2:

We'll I guess that a good of reason as any however I see people selling individual gig bags on e-bay these days to.  I've always been a hard case man but I'm finding gig bags take up less space for hauling and storage. Platefire
