Oh my

I feel really stupid. I just realized that for the past...I don't know...3 or 4 years my 2204 has only been running on one output tube. I just pulled v5 and sure enough no change in sound.  :BangHead: Its never been my main amp so I don't really mess with it. Now I see why I've never really liked how it sounded.

I gotta do some investigating but I'm half thinking I arced the OT way back when I got it. Back then I had no knowledge of tube amps, or that they had to have a speaker load when turned on. The voltages and bias checked out a couple months ago, anything else I should look/test for?

Sometimes I worry about myself  :dontknow:

I would pull the two output tubes and remember which one goes to which socket or you'll want to re-bias possibly. Then with the amp off/unplugged and drain filter caps if necessary - put your VOM on a low resistance setting and check your pt's primaries. Measure both outer legs and then look for appx 1/2 from each leg to the center tap. If there's a descrepancy like finding a short or open then you'll know for sure that you messed it up. If all measures out, then start looking elsewhere for something.
To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.

I'll give that a whirl when I get around to it, thanks! I flew my first cessna today so my head is thinking elsewhere!  :icon_biggrin:
