Schematic Library

Now that we have an awesome schematic library, can we start pruning it to eliminate duplicates?

We can do anything that needs to be done.

The instructions for submitting a schematic would also work for removing one.

The one with the better file name or higher resolution should stay put.

File name examples:

Not so ok: Bobs_ga40_super_extra.pdf
Better: ga40_1962.pdf

Which schematic library?

We have a schematic library of manufactured amps like Fenders.

We have a schematic library of editable SCH that are mostly forum builds or mods.

We have a schematic library of non-editable schematics that are not SCH editable.

Personally, I think the designs by tubenit, Geezer, and others are in the right place now.  Hoffman's layout/schematics are in the Library.  Manufactured amps (except for those covered with cosmic goo and too good for us to look at) have a good home too.

Back to Dan's suggestion - it makes a lot of sense to clean up the duplicates and get the names straight in the Huge Library of Schematics.  The key question is who is willing to devote the time to the effort...

I'd certainly be willing to help with the pruning. If I have time at the shop today I'll start making a list of duplicates, picking out the better resolutions, etc.

No problem, that should be easy.

I deleted all the files that John submitted using an automated program I wrote.
The program reads each line in a text file and then goes to the server and deletes the file.

If anyone else wants to create a list of duplicate schematic files.
Make sure you examine both files carefully and then choose the one to delete

Keep the one with the better resolution (file size)
Keep the one with the least amount of background garbage - scan dots.
Zoom in real close to make sure you can see all the fine detail.

Submit a simple text file using notepad or some other simple text editor that does not format the characters.
The file has to have the complete file names, one on each line.
All the files in the text file should be from the same folder on the server.

For instance, Gibson files only in one text file.
Here's a few lines of the text file John submited, which were all in the Fender folder

I suppose I could even copy and paste the file names from a post here.
I just tested copying the file names below and then pasted them into notepad
They pasted fine without any formatting characters.

Thanks John, "Member Builds" yes that's what I was thinking. I think it would be cool to have a "Member builds" listing just like the brand name amps. After all you would have to be a member to access them anyway, but if that would just be "opening a can worms" I understand.

Except you have some amps (like Gibson GA5T) where different amp circuits (the '61 vs the '67 skylark for example) have the same reference number.

We already have that, it's here on the forum in the schematics board.

The members file format is .sch files which cannot be displayed like a pdf can unless you install some software that can read a .sch file

Members stuff changes all the time and as it is being developed.

Those would not be considered the same schematic
Two exact GA5T's from different sources, different file names, etc  would be what you are looking for.
