 The need for Heat

 Does anybody have a suggestion for a Powerful solder gun? I'm trying to remove the cap can in a 66' Vibro-Champ and My 40watt radiocrap just ain't cuttin it. The caps negative tabs are soldered right to the chassi. Is there any other tips or tricks that could work? Thanks, Mike.

 I use an old 100 watt gun but it is not hot enough for big chassis grounds. A 250 watt plumbers iron is good for chassis grounds.

 I work around a lot of Plumbers, but I dont think I've ever seen a Plumbers iron. Maybe I'll ask If they have one to lend?

 Sorry, I should have clarified..A 250 watt soldering iron used by plumbers.

 I think I understand, but I've never seen a Plumber use an electric soldering tool, only propane and propane accessories. Do you know where I could get a higher powered iron?

 You could fix a wedge shapes piece of copper ore bronze(about 2 to 3 onces) to a metal rod. Heat it up with a butane burner and use like a soldering iron, that works perfectly to solder / desolder to a chassis.

 I use some really old Ungar 45 watt and 50 watt irons for large work, having inherited them when a factory closed. But new irons are available: Weller 4033-S with the large chisel tip should work, and I have used the temperature-controlled Weller W60P with excellent results.
