On the Blackface Super Reverb... looks and feels like waxed cloth with stranded wire. Possibly 20 awg?
Any one knows who may carry this stuff?

methinks you one should probably use at least 18 ga wire on that amp, but it's not my call. Weber has cloth covered 16 ga wire for speaker hookup and I saw the second link on ebay which was pretty interesting....

IMO, speaker wire should be heavier than 20 ga

I don't have a source for stranded cloth, just solid core 20ga cloth in six colors

I have 18 gauge green cloth, but it is solid core

And I really wish that Antique Electronics Supply's wire was even close to original Fender, if only so Doug had a source for cloth-covered stranded wire.

But it's not remotely the right stuff. I got burned to the tune of ~12 spools of the stuff when I made the mistake of buying before getting a small sample. I **really** hate that stuff.

I haven't tried the "lacquered" version that was linked, but I never will. The cloth over PVC has none of the advantages of either real cloth covered wire (like Doug's) or simple PVC insulated wire.

Reviving this decade-old thread b/c I'm having a heck of a time finding speaker wire for a vintage-style build. Anyone know of a source for 18ga cloth-covered stranded speaker wire (black/white) for a Tweed clone? If not, what are people using for vintage-style speaker wire on restorations or vintage-style builds?

Doh...I thought "single conductor" meant solid core and I didn't read the rest. Thx Silvergun, that's what I need!

Mresistor, thanks but I'm looking for cloth-covered wire.

Look on craigslist for someone giving away an old organ.  One organ can have miles of vintage wire.   How much to you actually need?

I was looking at vintage amp wire also but wasn't sure if it was ideal for a guitar amp. Thx for all the links (except for the wall art!)

It should look good in the waiting room of my 1980s dentist office.
