New tele build
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:01:39 am »
Hey all, I haven't checked in here lately, things have been so busy with work and projects, making some Christmas presents, etc., but anyway here's a shot or two of my new scratch build.  I'm calling it "Streetwood" since I picked up the wood for the body blank on the side of the road.  I believe it is fir, not positive, but that's what it looks like to me.  The cap/faux binding is 1/4" poplar on both sides.  Neck is maple with cocobolo fretboard, bone nut and medium/wide frets on a 9.5" radius.  '51 Nocaster pups, Wilkinson bridge with straight non-compensated saddles.

Thank you, Gentlemen!  Here is a tasteless bit of overplaying, a little demo made with my rather stoneage video camera.  Sounds like a tele to me

Wow,awesome craftsmanship and playing.
Question.
Where did you get your headstock emblem.
Make it yourself?
What is the type of paper?

Amen! I second that! wow--I love that color. Fender custom shop needs to talk to you because this looks better than what they have been turning out.
On the right track now<><

Thanks!  I gave it a little workout this past weekend at our annual neighborhood Christmas party.  I'm afraid I may have gone a little overboard, but the guitar happily accommodated my Neanderthal technique  :icon_biggrin:

The headstock decals are made with laser printer decal paper that I bought from MicroMark.  I do the artwork in Serif Draw Plus, print it mirror image, then use either Testor's enamel metallic gold or a gold leaf paint marker to fill in the letters.  Once that is completely dry, I brush a little white vinegar onto the headstock in the area where the decal will go, apply the decal, carefully dab it dry with a paper towel, then working from the center of the decal to the outer edges gently wipe with the paper towel to squeeze out any trapped air bubbles.  Then I let it sit for a few hours and come back with a little more white vinegar brushed around the outer edges, which acts like a solvent on the decal film.  That makes it easier to bury in lacquer.
