ECL85/6GV8 TUBE
« on: March 24, 2012, 03:21:35 am »
Hi guy's, I have been looking for a fixed 250vdc for the SLOW DRIVE 84 and the VVR works great. I had bought the ecl84s local and found that the ecl85 were cheep so i bought a pair as well. I surfed the net looking for a PP amp that i could use them in and found that they could be used for this http://www.the-planet.org/6GV8.html.

As always what is found on the net is to be treated with caution.

Can anyone confirm that this will work. Thanks

That's not an amplifier. It is a voltage regulator. A limited-range hollow-state version of the VVR you already have?

Note that the heater winding must be elevated to somewhere between 150V and 225V to avoid violating the 100V limit on heater-cathode voltage. This means a dedicated heater winding.

Thanks PRR, I did realize that it was a voltage regulator and not an amp. I was looking (curiosity only) if i could find a SS voltage regulator that would power the PI and power tubes (ECL84) at a set 250vdc. I did not want to use the ECL85s if i could use them in another amp but there is not a lot of info for these tubes in a PP amp, therefore i could use these(ECL85)as voltage regulators as i have two sets of ECL84s.The use of the ECL85 as voltage regulators just looked like a COOL idea, BUT the VVR IS a proven circuit.

The PT i am using have a 230v secondary with no CT that needs to be knocked down to 250v. Thanks
