Comin' ur way Doug
« on: March 28, 2012, 09:17:23 pm »
Me and the family are heading to Pigeon Forge this weekend for a much needed vacation. We'll be heading 85/40 through Carolina from southeast Virginia. If I have some money left on the way back, I may stop by and buy some goodies if you're up for some company.

Sorry, no
I am not allowed to have people come to my personal property for business as per the local homeowners association.

All packages get mailed.
I have customers 5 and 10 miles away from me that get packages mailed

The map looks flat but there is a huge mountain range between us and US40 in the northern part of the state.
If you look at Waynesville on the map, it looks like it's just a short drive to Brevard, NC when in fact it is not when you have to cross over the top of a mountain.

It would cost you less to get a package in the mail than the extra gas it takes to cross over a mountain range.

Doug has always had a strictly internet business.  No walk ins.

I think it's important to honor how he has set this up.

I don't live that far from him and I am over in his area numerous times every yr.  I always order from him over the internet.

With respect, Tubenit

Yeah, I don't want to offend anyone, it's just a policy.
Problem is, people take it personally.

That's why I deleted my facebook page.
I kept getting invites from guys holding guitars wanting to be friends, or whatever it is called on facebook.
I originally set up facebook for family stuff, not for business or for people I don't know.

Another reason is I just don't want people coming to my personal property.

I have scared off several religious people big time for violating my no tresspassing and no soliciting signs.
Typical response from people peddling religion is " Oh I am not soliciting"

The problem is, people take these things personally, so it's just better to not have have a facebook page or let people come to my shop.

No offense taken here.

:evil5:  Where I live, it's an apartment, so in addition to the rules of the complex, AND of the city, I'm not supposed to have customers come over for business purposes AND my office cannot have a direct door to the outside either. So, that leaves phone, Internet, their place, or even McDonald's (LOL... buy them and myself a drink... business expense... as long as we conduct business.) to conduct business. Now, friends they don't have rules on, other than that any complex rule they break, I'm responsible for.

So, as far as visitors go, well, it's your property as long as the taxes are kept up (otherwise the Government decides it's THEIR property instead,) you have every right to say John Q Public NOT welcome here. Yes people don't understand, and take things personally and get hurt. That's life. Better they know up-front in many cases, but that isn't always possible.

You do what you have to do to keep the HOA gestapo from getting mad at you also.  Personally, I'll avoid HOA controlled property when I finally get around to buying, as if it were the plague (if at all possible) because as I see it: I bought the place, I should be able to paint it florescent yellow with hot-pink polka-dots on one half, and all primary-color plaid on the other half if I have (lost my mind AND have) the urge to do so. I should be able to add a pool, run power tools, park my car in the drive instead of the garage, etc. if I want to without some HOA committee getting their panties in a bunch over it.

Our HOA is not that uptight.
It's not a golfing community or million dollar homes.

Just 45 modest homes, and we have a small private lake which is pretty cool
But there are a few rules that I agree with cause I don't want a goat farm next door to me.

You can have a business in your home but you can't have business traffic coming to your house.
Not a bad rule either since it is a residential neighborhood

You always have to keep an eye on idiots that don't have any common sense
My neighbor said at one time he wanted to sell the water coming out of his well
I told him that I and all the neighbors would sue the crap out of him cause it's not just his water.
It's everyones water and not his to sell
I can't image some idot wanting to drain the ground water supply like it is some unlimited natural resource

Also, I don't want people coming to my private property and taking inventory
I am a mail order business only so that works out just fine

I have a page on my web sites with that info here

No problem, I totally understand. I don't do the Facebook thing either for the same reasons. I just thought it would be cool to meet you personally. I doubt my wife and kids would dig looking at a bunch of amp parts as they get to see plenty of it in my garage. We are heading to DollyWood again this Wednesday but my herneated disc will limit how long I stay.

Free goat milk and goat cheese sounds good
I was raised on goats milk cause I could not tolerate all the other crap they fed babies in the 50's

Of course mothers were discouraged to breast feed back then I guess
"How primitve, you want to feed your baby how?"
"No, No No, that won't do!"

Love goat cheese.

Goat milk is a little stout for me.Sheep's milk is very sweet though.

We buy fresh cow's milk from our neighbor.Don't tell anyone. its against the law for some reason.

I rarely travel, but I always suspected the way to meet Doug is to lure him into Asheville with an offer of free beer and pizza.

Not a bad plan but Brevard is closer and less chance of getting pulled over after having a few brews

As I said on another thread, if I visit my friend in Penrose, I'll let Doug know...

so he can get away in time!
I will be swift.  And merciful.
