Discolored pins on octal sockets - heat damage?
« on: May 25, 2012, 11:25:17 am »
I was trying to salvage some ceramic octal sockets for a current build and I noticed that the pin 3 entry hole on each looked discolored from excessive heat.  Has anyone ever noticed this before and what could it be a syptom of?  :dontknow:

Thanks!

not enough info,

green?  black? red?   other colors?

Do you know what kind of tubes these sockets held?  (Gives us an idea).

White ceramic sockets held 6l6gcs. Pin entry points were yellow/brown.

I have seen o/t wires burnt on pin 3 of the power valves found onmy custom fender.  I have even seen the 470 ohm resistor fried.

I believe we are frying the wires and resistors because we forgot to provide a load on the speaker jack.

Does this help?

Yes- you confirmed my suspicions. Thanks!
