LED and Laser mounted to my Glock and Shotgun
« on: June 09, 2012, 11:26:52 am »
A buddy of mine is a gun dealer
He got me some home protection hardware recently
I am ready for when the Zombies arrive.  :icon_biggrin:

I sold a nice Ruger GP100 357 revolver I had which was not much use to me
I got enough money from the Ruger sale that I could trade the Glock for just about even money. I had to throw in 20 bucks is all.

Here's me new arsonal
A Glock 17 and a Mossberg 500 cruiser 12 gauge shotgun
I got several additinal clips for the glock
Each clip holds 17 - 9mm bullets
The Glock 17 is what many police departments and the FBI use
It's a super reliable gun, not a real pretty gun like the 357 I sold.

The Mossberg ain't no bird gun  :icon_biggrin:
It's only 30 inches long with that pistol grip

I just added a LED light to the shotgun that has a pressure sensitive switch that mounts on the pump
Just squeeze the switch lightly and the LED light comes on

I also added a red laser to the Glock which mounts on the Glock's rail
The laser is really cool
I clamped the gun in a vise and used a level that has a laser in it to aim the gun laser
The gun laser has small set screws so you can aim the laser beam
You turn the laser on by pushing the knurled switch lever just in front of the trigger
You can hook up a pressure switch just like the one on the shotgun, but I didn't want the wires and switch on the pistol

Here's some pics

Blind the Zombies with a LED light and they will freeze in their tracks
Then give them a taste of buckshot.

8 shells in the gun and 25 shells on the shotgun belt adds up to 33 blown up Zombies

Works in the movies anyway.

Very cool!

I had a laser sight on my taurus 24/7 but I didn't like it.It added bulk to small gun and I didn't like having to turn it on and off.I think the only way I'd have a laser on pistol is the ones that are in the grips.I thought about getting some for my browning but decided against it.

WOuld like to have an LED on the shotgun though.

Note to self don't piss Doug off.

My laser is very similar to that one. I had to to modify it to fit my Tarus's Tactical rail because I have the short (3.125" I believe) Barrel model. It actually turned out pretty well.

A lot of people scof at tarus but I like my little gun.Its very easy to conceal and has a 17 round clip.Extremely reliable .I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not having a glock.

I have two different guns by Taurus, a 15 round .40s&w and 357 6 shooter.  They're a fine gun for the price.  But if you spend any amount of time on a target range, you'll see where the extra few hundred bucks comes into play when you compare them to a more expensive brand of comparable caliber/barrel length.  That being said, if you're a law abiding citizen, and you ever really really need your gun, you're probably not going to be aiming at anything outside a yard or two anyhow.

I had someone try to break into my girlfriend's house a couple months ago.  It was the first and only time I've ever really really needed a hand gun (although, I suppose in this particular situation, a shotgun would have been more ideal).  It wasn't my house, so I only had my Beretta 32auto Tomcat.  He'd woken us up by rattling all the doors looking for one that was unlocked.  My girlfriend called the cops and I grabbed my gun.  I found him at the back door trying to get in.  I yelled at him and told him that the cops were on the way and I had a gun and that if he came through the door he was getting shot.  That did not deter him.  The guy was seriously F'd up on something.  He started banging his head against the glass window in the door.  I thought he was going to break the glass and unlock the door.  So I pulled the slide back and let it go and it made the unmistakable sound of a semi-automatic hand gun being loaded.  He was able to recognize what that sound meant and took off running.  The cops got him 2 blocks away.  Their response time was amazing.  They must have been just around the corner.  Anyhow...my girlfriend wasn't too keen on the idea of me having guns, especially in her house, but she doesn't mind so much now.  I told her, "You know, that guy was so high that this little 7 round 32 auto probably wouldn't have stopped him".  I keep the 15 round .40 Taurus at her house now.

Wow, that is a scary story.

That might not have stopped him right away but it couldn't hurt to empty the mag on him if he was in the house and coming at you.

I know I would not hesitate a bit.

A well placed round would stop him, but in a situation like that I would probably just aim for the chest.

That's one reason I like the laser
Even if it is dark, you can easily see when the laser is on target

Surprisingly, at the time it was happening, it wasn't that scary, in so much as I felt in control of the situation.  The inside of the house was dark.  The lights were on outside.  I could see him.  I was pretty sure he could not see me.  Also, he could barely stand up as it was.  I could see that he was unarmed or at least did not have a weapon drawn.  I had enough time to make a conscious decision that if he came through the door I would aim for his legs first.  If that didn't work, then I would try a few "well placed rounds".  That's why I prefer the higher caliber for home protection.  I think it's better to give up 4 or 5 rounds in clip capacity for the non-leathal stopping power if you have the opportunity to take a shot like that.  1 round from a 357 or 45 in the leg will probably stop someone even if they can't feel it.....or at least that's what I'd like to think would happen.  #00 buck shot from a 3" shell to the leg?  I know you're supposed to use #1 buck 2 & 3/4" shells for home defense, but I'm just saying....

What was scary was afterwards, because I was totally ready to use lethal force if necessary.  My kids were asleep upstairs.  If he didn't rethink what he was doing after taking 1 or 2  32 auto hollow points in the leg, then I wasn't going to hesitate to shoot to kill.  Every responsible gun owner's put themselves in that imaginary situation and thought about how they would feel if they had to decide to use lethal force or not and how they would feel afterwards if they did.  So it was a little weird coming that close to actually using a gun on another human being.  It was made even worse after the police caught him and told us about the guy.  He was just a kid.  He had partied too hard for his 21st birthday and thought he trying to break into his own house. If I had shot and killed him, I don't think I would have felt too bad to learn that after the fact.  He had been given adequate warning.  And I was protecting my family. But it would certainly make something like that easier to live with to find out that the guy had a record of violent crimes and his intent for breaking into your house was more nefarious than trying to find a bed to pass out in.

I think what's even better about the laser than being able to see it in the dark is that you do not have to line your head up with the barrel to get a good bead on a target.  If you have an armed intruder, you can extend your arm out around the corner of whatever you are taking cover behind, and you only need to peek an eye out just enough to see the red dot.

speaking of killing zombies...

http://www.hornady.com/ammunition/zombiemax

I saw this in the store the other day.  Read the disclaimer.  WTF?  Is this a joke or are they serious?  Because I don't think filling REAL hollow point ammo with green marker chalk and selling it as a novelty item is very funny.  Are there really people out there preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse?

LOL
Maybe they are talking about crack head or meth freak Zombies?

All my 9mm ammo is regular ammo, but I keep one mag loaded with some serious hollow point ammo, just in case.

Don't ever want to face a situation such as yours, but I am ready (hopefully) if something crazy goes down
