Multitap output transformer for 5E3
« on: July 05, 2012, 03:27:42 pm »
I ordered up a Mag Component Classic Tone multitap output transformer for a 5E3 build that I completed.  Anyone have any clever ideas on how to wire up a selector switch to select 4/8/ or 16 ohm output?   A 3 position rotary switch?   A round hole would be easier to make in the chassis that a rectangle for a slide switch.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. You guys probably do this all the time.

I am putting the chassis into a 2-10 cabinet and the speaker selection is more limited than I would like given the current 8 ohm output of the chassis.

Thanks
Tim

3 Way rotary impedance switch, sold by Hoffman.

"Fits into existing 1/4 jack holes (3/8" hole).
Body depth = 21mm. Body outside diameter = 34.5mm not including solder tabs.
You can bend the solder tabs over if you need more chassis clearance."

$10.25

Measure your chassis 3 times to make sure it will fit, with room to spare.

Cool.  Thanks. Sounds like the perfect solution.  Leave it to Doug.

Fits into existing 1/4 jack holes (3/8" hole)

- if you have a custom chassis and you DRILLed a 3/8" hole with a 3/8" BIT for your jacks, it will NOT fit. with most amps and chassis supplied the jack/pot holes are larger than 3/8", typically .406" +/-. use a 13/32" bit to make a hole for this switch; the bushing is M10 with .75mm thread pitch.

respectfully, just to clarify...
