Do you think? (filter cap question)
« on: January 16, 2013, 05:13:19 pm »
I have a 20uf/20uf/20uf/40uf multi cap in my JCM style build (similar except for the pre) and i wanted to get opinions on this. I use the 3 20UF sections and i was wondering if you think i would hear any difference if i used 3 discrete F&T 22UF caps instead? I am NOT assuming the 22 vs 20uf makes any difference, it won't and thats not the question. What i'm asking is whether you think it would make a difference tonally in any way by having better quality caps (arguably of course) that are discrete instead of a multi can and closer to the node destination instead of all together in one can away from the destinations.

I wouldn't expect any difference, unless the existing cap is known to be malfunctioning.

Thanks. I only asked because i read somewhere a post by someone insinuating multi cap cans are a compromise somehow.

I used a multi-cap can in my last build, but also Solens.

I used the can for the preamp where I didn't have space for the polypropylene Solen caps. However, I only used the Solens because they will never wear out or need replacing.
