6G15 Reverb kit build in a National NC-57 Ham Radio?
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:21:01 pm »
I'd like to ask the advice of you experts out there, and to me that's almost everyone, on my first build attempt, at least with tubes, I have done a few guitars and several soild state effects boxes. So don't laugh to hard if I ask some simple questions if the build goes on. I picked up a non-working late 1940's National Ham receiver a few weeks ago to put in my guitar room / den. I started thinking what could I do with it to make it usefull to me, I have wanted a stand alone reverb for sometime, so I started checking into it.

I found a few kits for the Fender, 6G15 unit and thought this maybe a good match for this project, so I started by gutting the receiver.

For my first question: are there any problems putting this reberb unit into a metal case, eather for safety or problems with noise, as all the ones i've seen are in a wood housings.

Second question: the size of the case 16 1/4"/10 1/4"/8 1/2" will limit me to a 9 1/2" reverb tank unless I mount it externaly of the case, possible an antenna? Will a 9 1/2" tank sound much different than a 16 3/4" tank, any recomended tanks for the build?

Thanks for any information

Robert
