8AB3C1B Reverb Tank Question

Hi to all

While checking into reverb tanks for a project i'm doing, I found it all but impossable to locate the tank I wanted, a 8AB3C1B 9 1/2"  as used in the early Fender Champs and Princetons seems no one making them any more. I'm sure one pops up on e-bay now and then, but could you take a 9AB3C1B and any 8 series tank from the same maker, use the transducers, coils, and rca jacks from the 9 series and the case and springs from the 8 and end up with a working tank?

Do you need the longer delay time?
  If not,mojotone has an 8AB2C1B tank,medium delay.

No,you cannot interchange transducers and springs without likely damage to those sensitive components.I would not attempt it.

The only tank I see at Mojotone any more is the 8AB2A1B which means the input jack would need to be insulate and would still not have the long delay, but looking closely at the tanks doesn't look like a big job to remove parts, just a thought.

What you are talking about doing is drilling out the brass rivet holding the coil and transducer assemblys to the C channel and swapping them out. I have replace those coil/transducer assys before in tanks I have that had open coils. When installing the assys, I used a #2 machine screw with nut instead of trying to install a new rivet.  Piece of cake. Go for it.
When you go to remove the transducer springs check to see if glue or silicone was uses at the connections. If there is, use a sewing needle or something similar to pic it off. Use care in doing that so you dont damage the transducer.
