6gk6 tube
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:41:09 pm »
The corner resale shop has a 50 cent bin of nicely boxed what
appear to be NOS tubes,  nothing of any real interest except for some 6gk6 which i recalled seeing in a old console stereo before so i bought them up, I did a little research on them and they seem to be very much like a el84 anyone ever used these in a guitar amp?   scsoul

Indeed, apart from the pin-outs, are referred to as electrically similar to EL84

Geezer used 10gk6 (same tube, different filament voltage)

they ARE a 6BQ5/EL84 with a different pin-out. some of the GE's i have appear to have an identical plate structure and construction to some GE 7189A i have in a stash.

i bought up all i could find before the hi-fi guys started to take notice when decent EL84 NOS supplies started drying up. another forum member and self have built with them. you could do a lot worse, read: inconsistent quality russian stuff and china crap!

on a footnote: it would not be wise to build amps with them to sell.

respectfully,
