Telecaster Pups Bill Lawrence

Anyone using Bill Lawrence Pups.  Thoughts?  Type.  They are very reasonable.  I was thinking of trying some, but if the sound like crap they are not worth anything.
Specifically looking at the true single coils.  They are called Keystones which are the same type Roy Buchanan used.

I installed a set of the Keystones on a friends Nashville tele and they sound wonderful.
The guys over at the tele forum love them, too

I have a set of the Wilde noise free stacked (Bill and Becky)....don't like them, although I think I got them too weak for my tastes. Bill gives too many choices for those who don't know what the effects of more or less inductance and such are, that's me. I'm going to sell them and try something else with more guts, as I'm not looking for the traditional tele twang.

So, my opinion is yes on the keystones.....get more muscle if going with NF's

Usually i am a 50's Gibson P90 or 60's Mosrite PU freak but I'm really enjoying the noise free L290TL-E, which I understand is BL's take on the Esquire. I run that with his wiring scheme and Q filter.

The L200N is a really great neck pick up and I ordered another of those. I love this one just by itself.

I did not believe my eyes when I got his Jazz Bass PUs because they have nine pole pieces  (not eight!). They are wonderful as is the old L90.

I have some Keystones and a load of others but have not fitted them yet.

If you try them take some time to adjust and dial in the heights. There is a barrel load of information on the Fender Info Base forum:

Love the ones in my Gibson L6-S.  Got vintage 500L's for an ongoing Strat build with a Carvin conversion neck.

Well I got some Keystones and they are very much worth the money.  Those went into an old tele I have.  They are a little on the articulate side of things which is not bad.  They have a fair amount of bite and are not very noisy at all.  I like them for some versatility.  The neck position is a little muddy, but if you raise them they clear up.  Problem is then they are not balanced.

I got a couple more for my Fender Custom Shop Tele.  I put a Voodoo TE59 in the bridge and a apc t300 in the neck.  Cost 3x the Lawrences.  If you can afford this setup, it is the best I have heard, ever.  The bridge is not harsh at all, but still has that distinctive tone.  great pup.  Now the neck is worth bragging about.  It will be very clear and you can roll the tone back a little and get a mini humbucker sound or bring it up and get a strat neck sound.  Great for the blue side of things.  Warning it is very hot and you have to lower it quite a bit to get a good balance.

Next on to my Les Paul.  I have a 335 with classic 59's and really like them.  Thinking of using them in the Les Paul.  Anyone have their favorite Les Paul Humbucker?

Can you describe the tone of these pickups?

From the name, I would think that they sound nothing like a classic PAF style Humbucker, But Ive had several people say on several forums that they are the best thing since sliced bread!

I occasionally gig with Danny Kalb, founder of the Blues Project.  Meanwhile, purely through the fault of madison, I acquired a Greco LP husk:  http://www.el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=4518.0 I rebuilt it rebuilt it using Lindy Fralin Unbuckers, simple 2-wire vintage Gibson-style wiring.  Previously, I hotrodded a SF Princeton.  One day Danny came over to rehearse and wanted to try my set-up.  He was so taken by the tone that he insisted on buying the guitar and amp.  I built these for my personal use, not for re-sale.  But I couldn't say no to Danny.  Now I don't have them anymore.  That's how they sound.

Mr. Lawrence just passed earlier this month.. RIP. I hope his wife and family continue making p/u's for the world to enjoy.

I have tried a few Humbuckers.  Here is the reviews.
Barenuckles Stormy Monday $$$$$, sound very dull.  They are supposed to be vintage, but they have a confined feel without much touch.  They were refunded.

Unbukers $$$- They sound like PAF meets Modern.  They have a nice breakup when digging in, but it must be intentional.  Bridge is best, the neck is not a thick as I like but I kept them.  Nice.  I prefer them in a fender style guitar.

Voodoo 59 Florence-$300.  Peter simply makes the the same spec.  Simply a well balanced Vintage set with a great high end tone.  Right at home in a Les Paul.

These are the most recent I have used.  Gibson has really done well with the Classic 57, which I prefer over everything in a ES335 type guitar.
