best singers have 'Church" 'upbringins' ?

James Garrison Band, (sometimes James & Giant Peach), a band I play w/and Close Friend, that I'm really happy to be acquainted, or antiquated with.


 

Jimmy sings like this all night, and I'm confident he  could do it smoking & drinking, if he was so inclined, or I was doing an expose'.   But time and time again, I run into people that have nothing more than their "natural voice'', no lessons, just what 'comes outa der mouth' so to speak, when they sing,

 and seems to be, when asked, where'ed ya' git them pipes?,  did you sing in chorale or church?, or..... they usually say church, or some group where they could 'blend in' sing out, without fear of peer reprisal, or?..

 Although a Nun with a ruler can be more fear inducing than a territorial Penguin   ......must be sum'thin there. any thoughts?  am I just deluded by close relationship, or can this shmuck Sing?
