First one gets my vote too.

To me it's the "feel" all total including the vocalist and the band of the song compared to the other versions.

It's the real R&B that happened between the blues and the early R&R, ie, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee and Little Richard, even Ike Tuner. Rockabilly also happened at about this same time.

This R&B phase between blues and R&R is missing in my music collection and because of that my music is sorely lacking knowledge as a player.

Check this out, very similar feel to Louie Louie.

From the "Great 28" by Chuck Berry "Havana Moon".

A little less R&B feel but with a little more caribbean feel to it. I'm sure Chuck had heard Louie many times and his song Havana Moon stands alone by it self, but still this was a time when blues had gone to R&B and Berry was 1 of the front runners of the next thing R&R.....

Richard Berry partially based Louie Louie on Chuck's Havana Moon, not the other way around…

I like ALL of these version but I will always be fond of the Kingsmen's version.....even the mistake on the vox.
I bought a box full of 100s of original 45s as a kid, Stones, Beatles, Elvis, Beach Boys, you name it....basically all early R&R.
Garage sale bargain for 10 cents! (not each....ALL!)
Had to make two trips to haul them all home on my Sears banana seat bike.
HUGE influence on me when I was about 8 years old......and forever.
Wish I had them all now.

Time for a  :occasion14: on the town.

Peace, out.

The Kingsmen - Louie Louie
