This amp seems to have a

that completely silences the speaker.  Got any idea on how they do this?

I'll take a wild guess? That XLR jack is wired the same as a shorting jack (with a toggle switch) so that it sends the signal to the mixer instead of the speaker. Of course, they have already diddled the output Z,and I assume have an 8 ohm large watt resistor in there somewhere for the OT?

Their online site says:  "Set the standby switch to ‘Silent Record’ for great direct-recorded tones that spare both your ears and your neighbors."

One way to do this is for the the Standby SW to lift the power tube cathodes from ground.  This shuts off the power amp, leaving B+ alive and the preamp fully functional.  Then a line-out from the preamp which could be tube, but probably SS driven, no doubt impedance "matched" (or bridged) for the input of a SS recording device.  The Record Out would function all the time, with the option to turn off the power amp while recording.  This gives line-out from the preamp only.

Another way is for the Standby SW to operate a relay to switch the OT secondary to a dummy load, wired for a line-out.  This enables power amp overdrive to be recorded from a silent amp.

If they just switch the output tube off you would think the supply voltage would rise. Mind you Traynor does it.

FWIW... Mesa just separates the signal from the PI and grounds it.

Either one of those makes a lot more sense than my idea!
