A recent tremolo pedal build
« on: October 14, 2013, 07:47:00 am »
Hey folks. I've just completed a fun build of a tremolo pedal. I went for a build of the "Tremulus Lune" which is a very versatile design, with all kinds of knobs to give you traditional trem sounds as well as more crazy chopped sounds.

There's a sound demo (from someone else) early on in my blog post, and one from me at the end:

Loved the Cooder-like demo cut.  Wonder how it would sound with an acoustic guitar?  Great pedal!

Thanks JJasilli.

I'd love to try it with a Dobro one of these days. That's the only guitar I'd go out of my way to buy these days.

Tried acoustic slide w/tremolo > 1970's Lawrence soundhole PU > Fender Champ.  Like it.  Guess I'll have to build a pedal for non-tremolo amps or sound boards!

Nice work. I love the graphics and that is some great tremolo tone in the sound sample. I have to hand it to guys like you and Geezer who build these things from scratch. I built the MKC1 kit from Mammoth Electronics this weekend. Great little Klon Centaur inspired pedal. I just don't have enough patience to work in those tight spaces pedal after pedal. It was a fun build but not something I could do over and over. Well done!

Some of the most amazing music in history was made with equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

These kind of projects are extremely satisfying to build for a number of reasons. I'm learning lots of basics, such as good soldering practices, layout strategies, how the circuits work, approaches to debugging. And of course I end up with a new addition to the signal path.

I know all these apply to building amps too, but I can fiddle with pedals in a much smaller amount of space, which is handy for me.

The indulgent part is the graphics...which is just icing on the cake, and just a bit of fun really.

Now I'm tinkering with power supplies, which is much more interesting than I thought it would be.
