Cream reunion

I enjoyed that too. But I thought the guitar was hohum on White Room and Badge. The originals had a very powerful guitar sound. Eric had no driving power on this video. He can do much better. Still liked it and it was nice to remember how wowed I was when I first heard all those sounds.

I remember that! But I could never do that powerful singing lead like Eric did. I had it in my head but just couldn't get it in the fingers.

I hope I didn't sound too harsh or critical of that reunion video. Those three songs have always been high on my list of all time favorites. I guess I may have been expecting that the guitar to more closely match the tunes that are stuck in my head. And White Room? How could you not use a crybaby on that solo? Eric's soulful use of the wah-wah was a huge part of that song. Especially at the end.

I think you were spot on...
I would have hoped to hear a bigger, stronger, and improved wah tone than what was on the recording in the late 60's

It does go to show that it is very difficult to improve on that level of greatness,,,,,and just because time passes and technology advances, it doesn't guarantee that there is any better guitar tone than what was around  40-50 years ago.....what other technology has stood still like that?.....it explains a lot about our obsession with this hobby

I do really respect his "stripped down" rig and his ability to pull it off with just guitar + amp.....that's greatness and a great example for all the kids out there.............no Line 6 needed

I prefer the old Clapton cream tone but still he sounded good

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since those guys first hooked up. I remember reading a Clapton interview a few years ago that when he was performing those songs live with gibson guitars/Marshall Amps they were so loud and stoned it was almost unbearable. I think he has toned down his sound to a more bearable level these days--part of the diffence. I also miss all those signature parts on those songs but do you think we are remembering the studio album and as you know, it's quit a bit different performing it live. Platefire
