Sweet deal Hot Rod De-Ville & Ultra Chorus
« on: January 26, 2014, 01:07:20 am »
Last weekend there was an ad on CL for a Hot Rod Devlle and Ultra Chorus for $225 for both.  I contacted him basically interested in the Hot Hod but he said I had to buy both no deal on one or the other so I went to look at them.  They both looked like new and determined pretty quick the input jacks on both were broken internally as they were missing the chrome ring where the cable plugs in at the top of the threads and the chorus had a broken vol pot.  Both were super clean came with the factory foot switches and looked like new so I took the chance and bought them.
I had 2 input jacks at home and Installed them into the Hot rod, cleaned the pots, biased and the amp works perfect.  Never played through on of these only the blues deville I just finished fixing and this is way more crunchy than that amp plus it has the 2nd mode for more crunch.  Nice amp
Ordered all 7 jacks and the vol pot for the chorus installed this Thursday when they came in and it is a perfect working amp as well.  This is a great sounding SS amp and well put together compared to some of the SS amps I have worked on.
I know this really isn't a repair topic per say but I never run into deals like this and a year or so ago before joining this forum I would not have wasted my time so I was pretty excited and wanted to share.  Now they will get listed back on CL or Ebay to pedal and make some money for the new Sluckey Dual 50 head design I want to start building next month.
Thanks again to all on this forum.  Now back to the DSL50 making me pull my hair out.

Nice!

I bought a Fender "Twin" in showroom condition for $350 last week. I once owned 3 Twin Reverbs, now they are way too big to deal with and 5x louder than I ever need to play. But this was too good a deal to pass up. I'll be selling it if I can, or trade for something interesting.

Nice score! I typically only buy stuff if I can use it. Buying gear I don't really need for cheap to flip on Craigslist (or just selling gear outright) has been an exercise in futility for me. For every item I have moved at least ten have languished while people try to pick me apart on the price or I have to deal with tire kickers and phishers. If I can buy it low enough to make it a worthwhile trade item at GC I will pull the trigger. That hardly ever happens. Most sellers on Craigslist think the world of their stuff and most buyers want something for nothing - delivered to boot.
Some of the most amazing music in history was made with equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

The Hot Rod De-Ville is actually a nice sounding gigging amp for the money.  Try a 5751 in the V1 position or swap the pre-amp the Groove Tube 12ax7's for
EH or Shuguang  for less fuzz and more definition and bite.    Jim
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench--a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men left to die like dogs.   There is also a negative side.

I always like to hear about a good score and looks like you got one. Got an Ultra Chorus in my pedal board.
I never had a hot rod deville but did have a hot rod deluxe once which I really liked the clean channel. Never was happy with the drive channels. Enjoy! Platefire

About $40 in parts to fix both got $550.00 for the Deville $175.00 for the Ultra Chorus profit on the whole deal was very good IMO.
Stay tuned all other amp and pedal projects are fixed and 100% so with the profit made The Sluckey Dual 50 is next on the chopping block, I have had my eye on this for for 2 years now.  It's number is up.
