 Classic Case of Stupidity

 This kind of thing makes me want to commit murder.

Here we have a Black Face Super Reverb.

The original baffle is gone. They drilled a hole for a buzz control knob and an LED right through the logo. They also drilled a hole is the rear of the chassis for a buzzsaw on/off footswitch instead using the extension speaker jack.

All this chopping in an effort to make a better sounding amp, and yet they didn't even replace the original electrolytic caps. Isn't that kind of like boring out the cylinders and adding a blower to an old Camaro and yet leaving four flat tires?

 And yet someone has already bid $500....
A few months ago someone was selling a Vibroverb with a brand new chassis installed, and in another auction they were selling the original chassis! Duh....

 The person who did it is stupid and, of course, the person who bid $500 is a moron! The good thing about amps like this (usually) is that you can get them for $50-100. Sometimes even for free. It may never look right but it can be made into a sweet sounding amp for far, far less than one in good shape would cost. The way the old amp market has been shoved through the roof, it's the only way a lot of people could afford it.
They're just tools. I'll take them wrecked and cheap, every time. When I'm done, they'll sound just as good as the pristine ones.

 It is a shame to mess up a classic, but it's not like I haven't changed one even older.
I guess I'm not much of a purist, in that I accept a person's right to do what they want with thier own property, even if it is stupid. I'm sure they thought it was a great idea at the time.
While we all want to think it will go to a good home and be brought back to it's original glory, the moron that started at
$500 may be planning even more tacky mods.

On the more hopeful side, I believe that Angela has NOS blackface faceplates, now. One on those could make it appear just fine from the front.

Now if the bidding was down around $50, I'd be trying to give it good home.

 True story:
In the "Encyclopedia of American Guitars", there is a picture of a '66 Firebird with a caption saying it was "far too rare and weird" to ever be in a catalog. It is reverse thru-body, no raised ridge on head, regular tuning keys but backwards, unbound neck, dot markers, 2 P-90's, and a cheap vibrola. It was transitional and only 7 were made. In '67, a friend of mine was fronted one to hold while a deal was going down (we won't go into that). He never got paid so he got the guitar. A dog had chewed on the upper bouts so he cut them off and stripped the guitar. A few years later, he got tired of it laying around and gave it to me. I refinished it and have been using it for years as my slide guitar. It's a damn shame it's not stock....except that I wouldn't own it now, at least not for free! I think it looks better than stock and weighs less, too. Most people think it's an old prototype of some sort.
Point is, I have a great old well made guitar for very little because it had been damaged, then modded. And if it were stock, it would be worth too much to take into public. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if every amp on earth was modded and available for $300 or less.

 Gosh, I have a 76 firebird that Stevie Ray Vaughn signed on the back using a spoon so he could dig in. I guess that this thing is trash now eh?
