Let me preface my questions by explaining that I am committed to building a 25L15-inspired amp. I intend to follow HotBluePlates' advice to a poster on another thread to follow the "napkin" schematic for the power supply, but follow the schematic which purports to be a 1953 25L15 for the preamp--I don't expect to build a "clone", but am merely trying to trod in the footsteps of more highly skilled predecessors.
I am curious about the different power supply configurations shown in the two schematics I mentioned: In the "napkin" schematic the B+ is supplied to the 807 screens from a point between the two chokes, whereas the 1953 schematic supplies the screens from a point after the second choke. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to supplying the screen from the one point or the other? Also, I plan to substitute a 40/20/20/20 uF capacitor for the 20/20/20/20 for two reasons: I can obtain a 40/20/20/20 at less than half the cost of a 20 x 4, and I noticed that Bud Park did so in his Parkel amp. I'll put the 40uF section in after the second choke to keep the input capacitance within range for the 5U4. I don't anticipate that this will be any problem, but would like assurance from you all that this is workable. I won't post the 2 schematics here, as they have already been posted elsewhere and can be easily found.
