yes it is but something seems amiss

His guitar part comes back in before he hits the strings

Maybe I am missing something but I am not seeing or hearing that?  Sounds to me like the organ kicks in & then SRV falls in right behind?

His hand is still sliding down the neck to get into position while the open E chords are playing

Hmmm????   Maybe the video was edited somehow to add that?

That is a sync issue created by whoever uploaded that. The video timing is kind of "smeared" after the changeover.

I remember watching that Austin City Limits live (early 90's I think, just before he died), and I have zero doubt that he actually did that (not lip-sync'd, etc). None of his solo lines exactly match anything recorded during any of that ACL performance.

I am not saying the whole clip is doctured

The clip plays is in sync
His words match his mouth and so there is not a sync issue that I can see

I am saying that someone just added in the small section of guitar sound while his hands were returning to the open E chord position

Here ya go
It's way easier to see when slowed down
It plays at regular speed and then it is slowed down

Notice that his mouth is in sync with the audio track, so the guitar has to be in sync also

His hand is still up around the 12th fret and sliding down the neck when the guitar part comes back in, but the song is played with an open E chord

I was just curious why someone thought is was necessary to doctor the audio on the youtube clip

I see what you mean. I went to look at the complete episode, and see/hear the same thing happen.

So now I'm thinking ACL doctored it before air so a song take that was otherwise really great didn't get tossed.
