Hi guys, I can kinda side with stratele52, I am a "BUILDER" by trade and to get this title I had to do a four year apprenticeship, work on the tools a minimum of four years, do a basic building and management course at college. I then had to establish at Company to be able to build houses for payment. After being in the building business for 34y I can call myself a "QUALLIFIED" builder with experience in all aspect of building and construction.
It wasn't always as involved as this to be call a builder, you only had to have a claw hammer hanging off your belt to be one, and this was getting people hurt (physically and financially) a building authority was formed to regulate the above minimum requirements.
As much as this was a pain to get these requirements, the big picture is that I have a ticket that protects MY job.
I have been in this great forum now for four and a half years and have learnt lots and put together amps that work well(thanks to all)
But I can't call myself a "TECH" cause I don't have a piece of paper that supports my qualifications.
I have been asked why I don't I repair, build and sell amps, the bottom line is I CAN"T in my own conscience do this if I don't believe I fully understand there workings (theory and technical stuff)
If you ask, what I thought was wrong with the picture. Its CHUCK thats the idiot, I'm pretty much a computer challenged being but I would have researched repairs to vintage amps before putting into the hands of a so called TECH that in this case was going to kill me or at worse charge me a small fortune for what could be a just minor repair. Thanks
