Soundclips of my Amp
« on: June 23, 2014, 10:58:06 pm »
These are clips of my recently semi-completed build. Still needs a head cab, knobs, and faceplate. Still doing some voicing too. The amp has no master volumes at all. Seems like the ones I tried sounded like poo.
Guitar= Epi strat copy with fender fat 50s single coils (needs a good set of tuners)
Speaker= Plugged into Open back 1x12 WeberVST Silverbell that's in a 18watt TMB weberVST kit build.
Amp is 2-6v6 4x12ax7. It sounds a whole lot better with KT66's or EL34's. Although, the current rating on the PT (Hammond 270FX 150ma) is just not enough to handle larger tubes reliably. So I have to run 6v6.
I'm cursed with having horrible stage fright, can barely play alone or in front of my family/friends. I'm not SRV, So forgive my mistakes, needed some beers to even record and post this. I really love playing though, and just wanted to share my amps tone with yall. Sounds much better in person.
I used a Shure SM57 into a Tube MP preamp into my laptop. Used the free Audacity program online to record with.
I just like to jam, just play whatever comes out when the music starts...don't ask me to play the same thing twice. It will always sound a little different.

This backing track is from a youtube.com blues jam track called "60's blues jam track"

This is channel 2 turned up a bit. Clean sound is with the volume rolled back on the guitar. Also used an attenuator to tone the volume down a bit. Makes it sound dark compared to no attenuator....

This backing track is from youtube.com also. I have a lot of fun jammin' to this one. This one makes me want a reverb unit. Then a little noodling at the end.

This clip is all wah wah pedal. I had bought a used Vox 847 and gutted it and put a old-school circuit in it. Used the stock vox inductor...nothing special. I love clean sound with a wah pedal. Same wah pedal used on the CHannel 2 Jam.

Hope you guys dig it. I don't know too much about recording. Any suggestions for better quality recording is welcome and appreciated.  :help:  :dontknow:

Peace Everyone,
-Aaron

Aaron,

Nice sounding amp!  I really liked your playing on Watermelon, I could tell you were having fun.

I was able to open the amp up without an attenuator today. No backing track, just the guitar and amp. The previous recordings were recorded in a bedroom less then 10'x10'.
This recording was done with the same guitar, mic, mic preamp, and same recording program. I just was able to move it into a bigger room "the living room," and open this baby up a bit. I also did some voicing on channel 2 yesterday. I've spent hours changing components...etc. to get the amp to this point, and I think I'm almost there.
This is a recording of Channel 2. It's a little unstable(no shielded wire), but it doesn't oscillate. The amp demands a good player, and I think once in some "capable" hands (someday it will be, hopefully)...it would be a killer.
The open back alnico 12" 18 watt cab doesn't really fit the amp either. I think a closed back 2x12" or 4x12" would sound better.
Like before, don't mind the mess-ups. Just having a blast!  :icon_biggrin:

Thank you to everyone!
