jim, good to rattle the memories from time to time. happy i did. i was headed down a similar path with the rupp. by then i was making good cash working in a bowling alley and the hodaka's caught my attention. --pete

Pete,
Ha! More memories!  There was a guy that I knew in High School that had a Hodaka and he raced motocross - excellent rider.  Im sure you remember how loud the Hodakas were?  The main halls of our school were in the shape of an "H" with several surrounding outbuildings.  The principles office was in the middle of the H.  Well, as a senior prank, he had some buddies hold the doors and he road bare-ass naked (helmet only - must be safe!) down the halls complete with several doughnuts in front of the principles office and then out and into a van right off the school parking lot.  Never caught him as he was wearing a helmet with a smoked face shield.  Talk about sound vibrating off the walls, he had that thing wound up tight!!!

Like Plate, I cut a lot of lawns and shoveled many a driveway to buy that stuff - both musical and mechanical.  I sold my cycle when I decided I wanted to be a rock star!  Maybe I should have kept the bike...  :think1:

Jim

My religion? I'm a Cathode Follower!
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

Yelp, I looked at some of the parts, not in Dollars but what I call a short block was 1500, a frame without the forks 1000---think I would start off with a rear axle alignment bolt  7.50. Man! I'll have even more respect for a restored vintage HD when I see one in person again. Platefire

Kinda amazing based on your linked Flathead site that you could custom build one to your desires with no shortage of parts.
That would be a true RI to your custom taste and would be better than buying a completely assembled stock RI off the showroom floor and then modding it to your desires. It's a rich mans game that I'll probably just observe from a distance. It's a trill to me just to see those old vintage bikes in person. That's why I enjoy messing with guitars and amps because that is an indulgence that I truly enjoy that I can afford.
Was in Wally World the other day at the magazine stand looking at "Amreican Iron" and they had a really nice reworked Sportster. I don't know when Sportsters came into the picture but I don't think they go back very far. do they? I'd guess 60's but not sure. Platefire
