Is this wiring right for speaker jacks?
« on: September 22, 2014, 02:15:04 pm »
I have two stereo cliff jacks and I want to use them to handwire the speaker jacks on my tube amp.
There is no impedance selector in the amp.

Does this look right?

I would run a ground wire over to a PT tranny bolt to make a good ground
I guess that is what your green wire is representing?

Yes. The closest bolts to it are the main ground bolt for the pcb or the OT transformer bolts.
Does the fact that they are stereo jacks cause any problems or is my wiring right? In other words they will be like mono jacks?

Yes.

That drawing does not provide a shorted jack in case no plug is inserted. See Hoffman's library to see how to do that if you're interested.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

The jacks you drew are switching jacks but you have a jumper across all the switch lugs so they can't operate. I couldn't find it in the library either. I must have been remembering input jack wiring. Sorry.

What is the significance of the plus and minus symbols on your drawing?

Positive and negative. I forgot to draw the Negative feedback wire.
Here's one way Ceriatone does it but I have no impedance switch.
On some amps they do like my first drawing. So I'm confused.

I would wire the jacks like this. And this is how I would label the jacks. Positive and Negative labels have no meaning to me.

These drawings do exactly the same thing.

Oh I get it now. What's confusing is the jack board on my lowly Korean Hiwatt.
I don't know what exactly they were thinking.
The jacks have tabs that are reversed.
So although they are facing down it's as if they were handwired facing up.

If I wanted to add the Line Out Jack would this work?
They did it off the phase splitter but I think it's usually off the Neg. Feedback.
They would be grounded together?

Could the same thing be done with a 4 solder lug switched jack?  Green wire to tip, wire shunt to ground, connect both tips and run the grounds the way you show them in the diagram.  I think I know the answer but am just making sure.

Thanks
Mike

Is this a good or bad way to redo the whole thing?
they grounded all the jacks together
It's the way it was done in the old Hiwatt Lead 20.

I'm just going to do the speaker jacks for now.
Ground wire goes here right?
