coupling caps
« on: November 12, 2014, 01:08:34 pm »
A lot of the coupling caps in the schematics I've been looking at are electrolytes, I'm trying to "get" which way they go, just when I think it makes sense I find a schematic with it flipped.  what determines where the + goes?  thanks

If it's in a circuit that also has DC voltages present, the positive end goes to the most positive dc voltage. If in a totally AC circuit, it doesn't matter.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

If the cap is in-line with the signal then the + side goes towards where the signal is coming from and the negative towards where it's going next... think of it like: (+++it went that-a-way--->)
