All octal layout ?
« on: November 19, 2014, 12:23:46 pm »
Looking for a layout/schematic for an all octal project. Converting a 2x6V6 pa amp. I have space for the Rect. + power tubes + 3 preamp tubes. I'd like to add tremolo if space provides. Present preamp is 1 6sl7 and 1 6sj7 and I have room on face for 4 pots. Thanks for any help.   Ed

Ampeg has several all octal amps. Link to schematics is at the bottom of this page. Here's one that I did a while back. Maybe this can help...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks Steve. The j-12 and the m12 look similar to me at quick glance. Are there any major differences? Thanks for posting the schematics and layouts.. Also caps. used in the power supply are 20x450's? Would 16x 475's work ? I happen to have some left over from another project.. Thanks  Ed

a 5E3 spin with some mods - using all octals.

Thanks DL. I don't have that much real estate to work with but I do like it. I wanted something like a 5c3 with Tremolo or Ampeg M12 w/6v6's using as much of the left overs on my bench as possible. However I do have very limited understanding of tube theory. I work from a chassis layout much better than a schematic..
