This new pedal is called the TAZ OD. As the name implies the pedal is inspired by and an acronym for Timmy And Zen.
I'm simply sharing, making, and offering another pedal to help the soul get to those special places while using the best tube amps we can build or buy.
This came from a tubenit idea earlier to combine the two pedals. Both circuits are very similar to each other even though their pricing isn't exactly to buy one, and the controls are essentially the same w/ a slight naming difference is all. The tone=treble and voice=bass basically but the bass gives more character while adding to the gain structure...call it what you want. But I left it called as a BASS control because that's what it really is electrically and circuit-wise as is the Treble control also. The TAZ is straight forward and has all the good tonal characteristics but combined from both of the others boosting and nurturing your signal. It has the added "Voice" switch on top to choose the various clipping behaviors of asymmetrical, symmetrical, and more added compression. It changes the character in slightly different harmonic complexity, sustain, & volume. By using the 1590BB enclosure and having four knobs and a toggle switch gives a bit more room for your foot to hit the stomp switch without hitting and changing the knobs' settings which I find more important when playing live.
The other pedals have their own cult-like followings. I have to admit, after being asked to do this, I was a bit hesitant at first. But, I was more than pleasantly surprised in the end at what I came up with after various trials & tweaks. Please know that this is NOT a direct copy of tubenit's schematic nor of the two pedals mentioned as I researched at least 5 out there specifically and many others which are all share in similarities over the years. In the end this simply is a very fun, intuitive, and useful overdrive. Rolling various dual op-amp chips out there really affects the overall nature of it. As a base/stock chip it comes with, I like and use the Burr Brown opa2134. I have decided to make more of these for anyone that would like one, as I do with my others by PM'ing me if interested in having your own?
Thank you, Joe
TAZ OD has all of these exact same glowing descriptions below it was inspired by:
Zen - The standard in dynamic, touch-sensitive overdrive pedals. Inspired by a legendary guitarist it delivers blues, country, jazz and fusion tones associated with some of the finest, most costly amplifiers in the market. At lower settings, the pedal offers extremely light overdrive sounds reminiscent of tube amps set near the “sweet spot.” At higher settings it increases in gain and sustain, producing tasty overdrive and low distortion tones. FEATURES: smooth, round, balanced, low-to-medium gain overdrive, slight overdrive to mild distortion, and great dynamic response and open sound.
Timmy - A pedal of near mythic proportions, it works in conjunction with your amplifier's natural tone to add anything from a mild boost to a strong overdrive without changing the overall character or architecture of your favorite amp's inherent tone. A wonderful, natural enhancement to your tone that is extremely organic. At low settings you will be able to effortlessly achieve a sound that is simply "more" of what your amp already offers. As the gain is turned up, and the pedal's EQ adjusted accordingly, smooth, singing, round and reedy tones are at your fingertips. The pedal's responsiveness is exactly like that of a great, tube amplifier in that it responds immediately to your right hand's attack. FEATURES: Amazing tone and touch sensitivity.
