Swart STR - possible to get the same sound ?
« on: January 06, 2015, 11:10:54 am »
Hi everybody,

I would like to know is there someone who already build a Swart STR type amp.
the sound looks so great, and i was wondering if it's something possible to get the same sound texture or close to it.

I'm quite a newbie, and i would like to one, it will be my first project tube amp

Let me know what you think about it,
advices will be quite appreciated

david

Hi David and welcome! A quick look at the swart site suggests this is essentially a champ-style amp (fender 5f1 or similar) with some tweaks such a reverb and probably an extra gain stage or so and a 12"  speaker. Seems this would be a very good choice for a first build...

a friend of mine bought a Swart Space somethin or other a couple yrs back. It appeared to be an off-shoot of a Fender Deluxe style amp (2 six V sixes and a single preamp tube. couple more tubes for effects send and phase inverter). More simplistic than a BF Del Rev and covered to look throwback to the Tweed era. A fairly detailed exhibition on it by Jake and his Strat made me think again of tweed deluxe sound. I get the impression that Swart uses tried and true circuits, tweaks some to raise headroom and uses top shelf parts along with a methodical wiring lead dress to ensure utmost quiet noise floor.  The tremelo on that Space Ball amp was very sweet.

you should be able to come darn close sound wise but you can't cut corners on the cabinet, speaker or any of the other parts.
