Acoustic Guitar tube PreAmp demo
« on: January 11, 2015, 04:07:11 pm »
These are 3 different sound clips to show the tone of the Acoustic guitar tube PreAmp I built for my son-in-law.

Acoustic guitar into acoustic PreAmp into E-MU Tracker into computer.  Everything was recorded dry!  The fingerpicking one only has EQ on it for the fingerpicking on one track  ( I used two identical tracks panned left/right).

Fingerpicking, then blues,  then strumming :

EDIT:   remixed and then reposted further down.

Overall, I am reasonably pleased with how this sounds.  No real piezo quacky sound like thru a direct box to my ears.

with respect,  Tubenit

Ok, what did you set different on the Strumming and the Fingerpicking?  I really liked the full body sound in the fingerpicking clip.  However, from about 1:50 on, every time you would hit the low E it had a fluttery distorted quality.  Not sure if it was on my end, you possibly overdriving your sound card (?), or just my old ears!  The strumming clip sounded a little...thin?  Not sure if that's the right description.  I don't know.  I've listened to it several times and I just cant describe it.  I don't know what the guitar sounds like naked so it's hard to tell.  You would be a better judge.  Otherwise it has a nice tubie...nit quality!

On a side note..  Wow!  Listen to those chops young man!  I am hearing some very tasty finger vibrato in the blues clip.  Time for a solo album.

Yeah,  the controls and switches were definitely set different for the finger picking and the strumming.

And I definitely liked the way the picking sounds best AND I think it more closely represents the way my Larrivee actually sounds.

With 8 pots and 8 switches, .......... it may take a little while to dial this thing in. I haven't had much time playing with it other then to see if it simply worked.

Good news is that the finger picking tune is the same PreAmp and guitar .......... so the tone is there, IMO.  Just a matter of dialing it in
when playing and getting the mix right.

THANKS for listening and for the critique.

With respect, Jeff

Hey if it has that kind of flexibility, it should work in every application with any guitar.  I thought it was the same setting.  Well done!  However, if you vent the poly-rythmic concentric isolation and electroscopic isolator for the fractional voltage reduction unit, it may sound a little more...open?  A burp should do just fine!

Jim,

I remixed the strumming one. However, when it's not recorded "right" to begin with ....... it's somewhat hard to compensate in the mix.

It does sound a little more balanced and warmer though, I think.

It just dawned on me what you are referring to.  I am finger picking the tune and then every so often I strum when I change a particular chord.  You're hearing the strum. It doesn't sound so odd in person/live.

Based on the fingerpicking clip, there's strong bass without boominess or feedback.  Sounds like a winner!

OK,  I am getting the hang of this a little better.  Takes a while experimenting to figure out how to set the controls.

I think the guitar has a reasonably natural transparent rich full tone.  No piezo quacky stuff that I can hear.

Both the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar riffs were recorded thru the PreAmp.

And I remixed the original sound clips into one. So I think the tone improved somewhat with that also.
