Cab Fill
« on: January 16, 2015, 11:14:55 pm »
Hello

I built a 2x12 cab for my Blond Bassman and was reading that most closed cabs of the like used some kind of fill to stuff their cab before closing it up.  So, basically, what material would you use for a cab like mine?  I have read that some fill it till it's maxed out and others place like three slabs along the walls (bottom, top, side--but not divider edge).  I bet it is all relative to dimension, speaker frequencies and other things past my scientific, mathematical abilities.  Tried to keep my cab dimensions close to stock and was looking for just basic recommendation.

Thanks

Matt

You can do it as original if you wish.  I use the 1" egg crate foam as it is cheap.  The fender stuff looks like yellow fiberglass isolation.  Anthony Lucas with Eminence says pillow foam spread loosely is what they suggest.

I cover everything inside even the back panel with a closed back.

http://www.eminence.com/2010/09/cabinet-recommendations/

Checkout just past half way down that web page.  Eminence recommends specific amounts of Fill for a sealed enclosure; lining for a vented enclosure, presumably not to block the vent(s) with fill.
