marshall build q's
« on: January 25, 2015, 06:37:56 am »
So gonna be ordering some stuff today for a build for a friend. Still torn between sluckeys dual plexi/800 and dougs plexi 50 build.

my question is on the 50w OT available to me is CT 3200 instead of the desired 3600 - is this gonna cause a headache or what is the knock on effect to the output section of the amp??

Also does anyone know the specs of the choke as i am reading conflicting data for them - some list as :

5H @120mA DCR = 115 ohms  and others as: 40H @50mA DCR = 420 ohms
anyone know the correct specs?

I am leaning towards hammond 158q
  • Inductance: 5 H
  • DC Current: 150 mA
  • Resistance: 105 Ohm

Cheers,

That OT will be fine.

I suspect both are correct, depending on which particular model you look at. If I had only one of those on hand I'd use it. If I had to buy one it would probably be the 5H. BTW, Doug lists the big Fender choke in his parts list for his Plexi.

I recently built a Plexi6V6 and am enjoying that amp. This may be of some interest, but your OT would not be ideal for this smaller Plexi. Just something to consider...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Delighted you chimed in!
We are leaning towards your https://home.comcast.net/~seluckey/amps/misc/Marshall_Dual_50.pdf
despite the 6v6plexi looking nice and straight forward your dual 800/plexi looks like a killer build project for those into marshall tones - I am presuming (maybe wrongly) that with the 470k mixer in place and using an AB pedal one could seriously crank one channell and have the other channel going without as much grind so the perfect setup switching from rythm to solo,

not to mention this build is going into a marshall tsl122 thats getting its guts out at long last. So there is alot of space available.

If you have any pointers on your dual plexi/800 id be keen to hear them.

thanks a million

I never built the dual 50 so my experience with it is strictly on the drawing board. I think some of the members here have built it, or used it as a basis for their build. Maybe they will comment on their experiences.
