WGS BG-15C Xmax spec

A few cabinet builders have avoided this bass speaker because the T/S parameters on the WGS website do not include Xmax. This complicates the process of designing a cab for it if you're using software like winISD.
 
I have finally obtained the BG-15C Xmax: 0.375. Someone out there is looking for it so there it is.
 
I built a big cab for it (@170 liters) and tried it sealed: no bueno. Fortunately that same day WGS finally got back with me about the Xmax so I should have no problem    porting and tuning it over the next few days with the two 10cm ports I have. At least I got the box dimensions close to optimum (1/1.6/0.6)
 
I'll also be using the paint-on sound absorbent "Aurex"; I'll let you know how that works out. 
 
FYI to all users: Wayne at WGS told me they'll be putting out a new version soon so verify the T/S parameters with them before ordering.

The paint is called "Acoust-X", not Aurex. When I first started applying it, it seemed like they had just taken some joint compound, dyed it gray, and changed the label. The price was about the same as joint compound too. But when it dried it had a rough surface with some give to it.

Does it do what it says it does? I don't know, but the cabinet sounds pretty good. Just to be safe I still used egg crate material on the back surface of the box FYI.

Sounds interesting, can you post a few pictures of the cab with it applied?

It goes on the inside of the cab?

I'll open it back up & take some photos soon. It's so nice having a bass rig that sounds good with a lot of sweet spots. I built the head myself, using a B-25B next to a 5F6a preamp, with a MV and using the B-25B PI topology to drive 4 6550s. Even at low low volume in the garage my wife said she could hear it in the bedroom across the house.

I pay lose attention to T/S characteristics when I build cabinets but I also know that sometimes my need is for a compact box that I can carry.
I have no trouble finding all the info I need when I use my preferred drivers.  That would be E/V, JBL, Altec and a few others.  A box made smaller than the numbers suggest will be less efficient, of course, but when you have enough power to overcome that, it makes no difference.
I also port every cabinet I make and when I have considered what the optimum design calls for and what I actually want, adjustments can be made.  I will cut the port hole(s) on the baffle and then slide my cardboard port tubes into the box while running a low frequency tone though the speaker.  I adjust by ear, trying to get the resonant frequencies as low as I can.  Then I cut the tubes and glue them in place.  Jim
