Clean to FX to OD pedal to OD
« on: June 24, 2015, 06:19:29 pm »
I will probably get around to trying this at some point. I always use a delay pedal with my amps with slight delay. AND I've built a handful or so different effects pedals over the years but seldom use them even though they sound great.

I've tried a compressor, zenith drive, TimZee and fuzz pedals in the active FX and they sound awful to me.

Having said that ........... any of those pedals sound great thru just the clean channel (with only two gain stages) into the active FX and then LTPI.

Yes, I can simply put the OD, fuzz or compressor into the amp input jack & that works and sounds good. And it introduces some noise at idle.   However, I am wondering about sending the clean signal into an OD pedal at the front of the OD section and what that might sound like?  I think it would sound good but I don't know if it would sound better then in front of the clean?

Taking this approach would be sending the clean channel into the OD pedal into two gain stages before the delay in the FX etc .......
I think maybe that could have a very transparent OD tone & still boost the OD with more EQ adjustments for the OD channel?

IF it sounded remarkable, then one could leave the OD pedal on all the time going into the OD channel and simply use the footswitch to go from clean to OD.  OR .............. if they needed a cleaner OD tone, then they could simply turn off the OD pedal .

I actually think maybe a compressor pedal into the OD section could sound pretty cool.

I plan to try this maybe around the 4th of July wkend.  IF so, I'll report back the results.

Thoughts on this idea?

With respect, Tubenit

Well theoretically you can squeeze the bandwidth with the comp pedal, so it should sound smoother
A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.
