one more chassis layout question
« on: August 03, 2015, 03:49:06 pm »
First off...... to me the layouts that have PT, choke, OT make much more sense. However, like some of the jcm800, for my design, I feel that PT, OT, choke filter cap, choke is a better suit because I am using a smaller chassis and this keeps my OT away from input as well as places the OT secondary right where it goes on the el84 sockets.

Ok so I know we cant look at this and say "ok should be quiet."   But I am taking all the precautions. I have pretty large spaces between tubes. 2.25" on center to be exact. The last one I did was 1.5" on cneter. The only thing that I am questioning is the pair of el84 seated right behind the PT. I saw an early version of the AD30 similar to this. The difference is the orientation of my PT in comparison to the AD30. I am assuming, it shouldnt cause me too many problems but any thoughts.? My AC main IEC port is coming in on the left there also right beside that left most EL84 but I should be able to hug the chassis there with my ac wires to PT.

I built a quad el-84 early on here and my layout shoulda been a failure, but it was very quiet using ALL the "worse practices" .  in the pic the OT is on left, tubes, big-'ol choke, then PT.  It sold easy to a wanna-be audiophile :icon_biggrin:

Is that to say yours will be quiet. nope, but if you use "best practices", the knowledge from searching this forum, you *should* have a nice quiet amp.

Thanks Shooter.

I have a really nice board layout. Best ive done. It is laid out so that all wires from each tube socket go straight up to its place on the board and not crossing any other wire at all. Filter caps are all placed directly next to their respective components. All leads are short. Fingers crossed on all that. I just wasnt sure if there was any rule of thumb regarding the space of tube to PT iron.
