Forum Issues and Information

How come I can't start a topic in the "Forum Issues and Information" board.

If I could, I would ask:  Why do my font sizes get all screwed up when posting on this website? (I'm using Google Chrome).

I was just able to post in there. (then I removed it.)

All I did was click on new topic.  :dontknow:

I've had trouble with font size before. I had to play around with it before I could get it to work, I think it was on my side, doing something wrong.

Maybe play with it until you get the hang of it? You can always post a test then just remove it after figure it out.

OR wait for Doug or 1 of the other mods or 1 of the guys who has success with it.  :icon_biggrin:

Edit; I seem to remember that I had to > hi-light the words > then click the font size tab > then select font size > then I had to hi-light again > hit the font size tab a 2nd time > set size again, then it worked?

Don't know about starting a topic on that board but your fonts look fine in this thread.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Look at my fonts in this thread, Reply #4:  http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=19107.0

It usually happens when I edit.

I've seen that with a few other posts also. Here's that message in an edit box. I've highlighted the offending code. I don't know what to tell you except that you can re-edit and remove the font and size code manually. I have no idea how it got there.

It's usually a grounding issue, but use Doug's highlighter method and you will find your own error. :l2:

See the little cursor button at the far right end under font color? De-Select that when typing in Chrome (it is selected by default).

Now all the handy pop-up windows for links, etc will go away in favor of the html-type tags, font bold/underline/italic will be done with tags instead of directly visible on the text entry box, and the extra carriage returns will stop happening.

When that cursor is selected, sometimes strange things happen with it adding default font and font-size, which then gets screwy when you go back and change your wording or delete carriage returns. Chrome seems to add problems with this feature where other browsers may not. Going old-school is the easiest fix.

+1. The "helpful WYSIWYG" edit-box is nice if/when it works, but when it gets flustered you really want to be in raw-naked tags mode.

Are you typing in another application, then copy/pasting into the forum composition box?

Since a few years, this forum's compose box respects *some* formatting on copy/pasted text.

I've been very surprised when copying words from other web-pages. I'm not even sure it gets the font size/face correct, sometimes not close.

Don't do that.

I use a PLAIN TEXT application to write in. No formatting to carry-over or mis-interpret. In Windows, NotePad will do fine. (You may have to Format.. WordWrap to keep your text together without inserting line-breaks.) WordPad is NOT the same (it does formatted text). I actually use UltraEdit, b/c it does much more, but not stuff you need.

I think every 2nd-year programmer writes a text editor. Some have made it their life's-work. Some of the better ones (and also vi and emacs derivatives  :help: ) on these pages:
http://www.online-tech-tips.com/cool-websites/notepad-replacement/
http://lifehacker.com/five-best-text-editors-1564907215

I see that BBEdit keeps a running log of *everything* you type, even when you don't Save, which can be handy in crashes or when you "know" you wrote the same thing last week. However it is resolutely Mac, and I'm Mac-less.

Changing the font Size works. Thanks! (Though I can't seem to "deselect" the various settings, I can now fix weird type later.)

Click that cursor icon multiple times. When I'm in Chrome, it is selected by default and dark-highlighted. Clicking again removes the highlighting and stops some of the auto-formatting.
