Single Channel Deluxe Reverb - Switchable Power Section
« on: September 13, 2015, 03:31:25 pm »
Hello,

I am building a single channel DR and have acquired beefier transformers than required. I am only doing one channel and reverb, no trem. I have a slightly oversized chassis to work with, so I was wondering what I could do about a switchable power section. A DR/Vibrolux switch to go between 6l6 and 6v6 power tubes is what I am after. I have seen a few amps out there that offer the ability to swap between the two, but I have the room to install both. My OT has multi ohm taps, and space is not an issue. Any thoughts on this? Can it be implemented well? I haven't been able to find any schematics for it.

Thanks

I assume you want to have 6V6s and 6L6s plugged in and hot so you can just flip a switch to change from one to the other? If so, yes, it can be done but not easily. Most people just plug in one set of output tubes, change the bias, and go.

What do you hope to accomplish with such a circuit?
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yes, keeping both tubes hot would be ideal. However, it is not necessary. I don't need to switch quickly on the fly, I just want to have some utility without having to lug around box of tubes. Ideally, I would like to be able to flick the switch, unplug the 12" speaker, and plug in the 2x10 cab that will sit below it. I don't know why I want both set of tubes.. Maybe I should just stick with 6l6's and add a half power switch... I just really like the idea of maximizing utility for this amp.
