Fender GDEC-30 USB slot repair
« on: October 17, 2015, 03:04:33 am »
the USB slot on this amp has died, like most of these type slots after much use.

anyone know of a DIY fix for this so i don't have to take it in for an expensive repair?

USB connector is just four lines.

Dis-assemble until frustrated, or you see how to remove or hack onto the munged USB connector, add a new more robust connector. Also get a 3-pack of short USB cables. Put the cable into the amp and nail it there. Connect your whatever to the loose end of the cable. After much abuse, the cable goes bad, un-nail the first cable, grab the spare, nail it in for a while.

shooter's link is jaw-dropping. This is not an audio amplifier. It is a computer. There's a dollop of analog to get guitar into the ADC and CPU, a plop of analog to work the speaker and some other jacks. ALL control happens inside the CPU (and helper digi-chips).

i've seen hacks for smart phone USB connectors that go bad, vs getting a whole new phone.

i like you idea, i'll have a look at it and see if i can solder a new connector in there.

yeah that schematic is way diff looking than say a fender deluxe reverb for sure. all that DSP stuff going on i guess.  thanks

Yes, except GE charges a lot more for it. (But throws in more video.)

The services guys had a saying about GE; "you can buy better, but you can't pay more!"
