Square speaker that goes round
« on: October 30, 2015, 04:59:22 pm »
Picked up this yamaha rotary speaker. It gets points just for being unusual
The fellow who sold it to me had dismantled it so he could use a DC motor
However he found the original motor for me and has the other bits that I will pick up(mounting unit for the motor and the board that controls it as well as a larger stationary square speaker)) wheeee
-I was wondering if any one had a schematic for a Yamaha RA-50 (or 200)?
or failing that (in case he can't come through)
-If someone had made a controller for one of these
-some ideas for maybe variable speed(rather than just 2)
-and some good sources to scavenge a DC motor from if necessary

Motors and or control circuit parts from one of my recent R-R buys might fit the bill.  Those would be excess parts to me and I would part with them quite cheaply.   :l2:

haha :icon_biggrin:  Not sure if I want to pay for the shipping but that's another good idea and makes me regret the dozen or so thrashed old reel to reels which have gone in the dumpster after having cannibalized the still usable bits.

Oh boy does the speaker spin? Really ? Am I seen this right?
Theory is when everyone knows everything but nothing works, practice is when stuff works but nobody knows why !!!

yep
For fun while I'm waiting for this guy to dig out the speed controller unit for the motor, I hooked an old shoe sewing machince motor, works like a dream, Nice leslie tone. I just have to build a cabinet so you cane see it to...or attach an led!
The sewing machine motor was of course too loud but it did the trick.

I'm not sure if the RA-100 has the same system but here is a link to that schematic:

http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&what=yamaha%20ra100&kategoria=&kat2=schematics

If you haven't downloaded from that site before it works like this: click the yamaha ra100, it goes to page with preview pictures of the document, below the picture reads "This file is downloadable free of charge: processing"
You wait for a while and the processing text changes to Get Manual link.

Cool!
and Thanks!!
just what I needed
It has the diagram for the leslie unit so when I get the bits I can use it to put it back together
And it has the information for the crossover circuit for the leslie units and the main drivers
