Test leads
« on: November 09, 2015, 10:09:22 am »
For some reason my meter's test leads seem to wear out fast. It starts with readings jumping all over the place and than settling down, reading correct. This is frustrating. I cleaned all the contact points, that helps but still they don't act like new after a year or so.

The continuity keeps intermittently beeping when I know it shouldn't. Moving the positive lead wire around gets the beep back but then starts acting up.

So my question is, how long should a set of leads last? What care should be taken to help extent the life? Seems the constant bending of the lead s wire, stranded, break inside usually near the beginning of the probe...?

What are the best leads?

thanks in advance,
al
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I get very good service from leads made by Fluke and Triplett.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yeah, I have a Fluke meter I bought in ~2002. It never occurred to me to need to replace the leads, as I've never had a single problem with them.
